Near beer: Second brewery proposed for Mission block

Mission Street near 18th is poised to become the most, um, hopp-ening spot in the neighborhood.

Plans are in the works to convert what’s now the New Starlight Furniture store into a restaurant and brewery. Occupying 2243-2247 Mission St., the business would be only a few doors down from Citizen Fox, the vegan brewery currently under construction at the corner of 18th and Mission streets.

According to a planning department notice sent to neighbors, the project’s backers are seeking a change-of-use permit from retail to restaurant and plan to make alterations to the inside of the 6,521 square-foot-building. No outdoor seating or changes to the building’s front façade have been proposed.

Plans for the restaurant are unknown. A call to the applicant listed on the notice was not returned as of this afternoon.
